Nurturing minds and inspiring futures.

Our small class sizes enable us to build trusting relationships with students and their families. We take time to understand each student’s individual needs, interests, and aspirations, using this insight to shape our teaching approaches. We see learning as a positive, rewarding journey—one that we hope will be enjoyable for everyone involved.

Our teachers design lessons that are engaging, carefully scaffolded, and adapted to meet individual needs, enabling students take meaningful steps forward in their education.  We create calm, low-arousal classrooms to reduce barriers to learning such as anxiety and fear of failure. This lets students feel safe to take risks, explore new ideas, grow in confidence and flourish.

Through focused, adaptive teaching, we help our students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to make informed decisions about the things that matter most in their lives and to succeed both in school and in life.

Across all key stages, our core aim is to ensure that every student engages meaningfully in learning, achieves personal success, and makes the best possible progress over time. Our curriculum and classroom environments are carefully designed to meet the strengths, needs, and profiles of our learners.
We prioritise structure, consistency, and emotional safety, creating calm and predictable spaces where students feel secure and ready to learn. Relationships, routines, and communication approaches are all tailored to support understanding, reduce anxiety, and build trust.
Our ultimate goal is to empower each young person to lead a fulfilling, enjoyable, and as independent a life as possible.
We offer a rich and balanced curriculum that reflects both academic and personal development. Some subjects lead to formal qualifications, while others focus on communication, social understanding, independence, and enjoyment. When planning the timetable, we consider what is meaningful and motivating for our students.

In Years 4 to 7, we use a project-based approach to learning that has been successfully adapted to meet the needs of our students. Learners are actively involved in choosing project themes, which allows us to tailor learning to their interests, strengths, and preferred learning styles.
All students receive specialist teaching in PE and languages, while our Year 7 students also benefit from specialist science instruction. Many of our Middle School students have experienced disrupted or missed education. To support this, we take a stage-not-age approach, allowing students to move flexibly between groups to access learning that is right for their individual stage of development.

In Years 8 and 9, students are based in a ‘home room’ for the majority of their lessons. This familiar and consistent environment provides security and routine, while gradually building students’ confidence to move around the school for specialist lessons such as Science, PE, and the Arts.

All lessons are taught by teachers passionate about their subject who work closely together to make meaningful links across the curriculum, creating more joined-up and relevant learning experiences.

In Years 10 and 11, students work towards a range of recognised qualifications, including GCSEs, Functional Skills, NVQs, and ASDAN awards. Alongside academic study, we offer a variety of enrichment opportunities such as art, photography, cooking, and design technology (DT).

Our aim is for all students to leave with qualifications in English, Maths, and Science as a minimum, ensuring they are well-prepared for further education, training, or employment. We also provide opportunities outside the classroom including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award,  sports competitions and day trips

In our Sixth Form, students have the opportunity to resit GCSEs and to study for additional qualifications, including further GCSEs, AS levels, and A levels. We recognise our responsibility in preparing young people for the next phase of their journey— whether that’s college, university, employment, or vocational training.

Working closely with students, we have developed our own Life After Woodstock course. This bespoke programme supports young adults in building self-confidence, developing independence, and navigating the world beyond school. Alongside this, we continue to offer high-quality careers advice and a broad range of enrichment opportunities.

We have small class sizes at Woodstock House, with no more than eight students in any group. In practice, class sizes vary depending on individual needs and group dynamics—our largest class currently has six students, while some have as few as two. When forming groups, we carefully consider each student’s needs and how they relate to others, ensuring a supportive learning environment where they have the best opportunity to reach their full potential.
